About the host

If you’ve been listening to the podcast, you might’ve heard:

“I’m your host Janessa Alexis” — but who is that exactly?

Janessa is a born and bred prairies girl.

Nestled in the heart of Canada, Janessa grew up never thinking she’d be a traveler. She spent her formative years disconnected and disassociated, directionless in life. Health problems in early adulthood offered perspective she hadn’t anticipated and motivated her to reconnect with the people and community around her.

But when the pandemic hit during the final year of her degree, she knew she’d rather do anything else than continue with a Master’s online.

So why not move abroad?

Months after completing her degree, she moved to Spain. She didn’t really speak the language, she didn’t really know what she was doing — and she was leaving all her loved ones behind.

But that year abroad changed the trajectory of her life.

Upon her return to Canada, she became restless — she couldn’t wait to leave again. Once she was TEFL-certified, she was on the road again to Korea. But health problems cut that chapter short and spurred her final return home.

She went on to complete a Master’s, land a big-girl job, and invest in a pension. She’s comfortable in Canada, loves her country.

But even while she’s planted roots, she’s continued to travel.

With 30+ countries under her belt (and counting!), she’s finally sharing her passion with the world: with the launch of a new podcast venture.
